HK$24,565 Raised for Orphans

Dec 8th, 12:55pm - THANKYOU !
On the 9th November 2008, in conjunction with the scheduled Yau Yee League match between Swiss XI and
HKDC Squadron, a “Family Fun Day” was held.
The primary purpose of this event was to arrange a series of sponsored games for the children of the members
of the two teams in order to raise funds to put towards the Swiss XI Cambodian Orphanages assistance projects.
Several games were arranged, and about twenty children participated, raising sponsorship money in the
process.
Following the Yau Yee League match, a BBQ was laid on, with the participants all encouraged to make
donations in lieu of payment for the food and drinks.
Generous sponsorship and assistance towards organising the day came from the following parties:
Sponsored Games:
Sue Man - co-ordination and accounting
Andy Raishbrook - games and prizes
Numerous Swiss XI helpers - games management
BBQ:
Bradley White (Southstream Seafoods) - BBQ foods
Wayne and Sigi Beer (Ziggy's Fine Foods) - drinks
Tony Hatcher - food items
Martin Lai - food and drink items
Other Assistance:
Karine Zanini - face-paints and photography
Annie Walle - Yoga Kids
Swiss XI and Hong Kong Squadron (sponsored by Hong Kong Delivery Company) - Bouncy Castle
Barry Wilson - venue co-ordination
Jack Shum (ESF) – venue cleaning
King George V school - venue
The event proved to be a great success, specifically with the kids having a lot of fun whilst generating funds for a
worthy cause.
We would like to thank everyone who provided help and assistance on the day, and also everyone who paid
sponsorship to the kids and/or made donations towards the BBQ and drinks costs.
We can now happily announce that the total fund raised by this event was:
HK$24,565
In the very near future, this money will be directed towards supporting children at Cambodian Orphanages near
Phnom Penh. Relevant information regarding the chosen project(s) will be distributed at a later date.

21 September matches

Sep 22nd, 11:14pm -
KCC 1-2 Squadron
Another year another victory over the KCC. A fairly even game but KCC's route 1 tactics didn't really trouble the Squaddie defence, particularly with Matt Brown and Arch in good form. Greg and Iain were lively all game and Gregs 2 goals taken composedly. Just about worth the victory...

Goals - Greg Turner (2)
MOM - Daniel Swan
Moment - Sean Hurley - 15 yards offside decides to become 'active' and the chance goes begging...
Referee - 5/7

Hearts 1-2 GGFC
Hearts paid the penalty for not sealing the game in the first half. Although dominating for most of the game GGFC defended resolutely and Hearts strikers were too often offside. Then after going missing at a corner a great goal set them up to win the game...but it wasn't to be as messy defending sent the points away as all too often last year.

Goals - Antonio
MOM - Samson Wong
Moment - Peter missing from a yard out!
Referee - 5/7

Annual Awards 2008

Sep 17th, 10:01pm - -

Other highlights included special guest "Sissy" making an appearance for the first time in presenting awards in her bikini and the "against the odds" victory of North over South by 5-3 in the Round Island Beach footy. Juraj finally finding himself on the loosing team and indicating that he is now too old to belong to the 'master race'.

Trampo’s leaving Bash - ‘SQN Ramble #3’

Sep 4th, 11:58pm - As many of you will have already heard, “Trampo” has gone mad.
He is voluntarily moving back to cold, wet London to take up a new job and be frustrated at the fact that it’s difficult for extremely short people to pull European women.
In view of his outstanding service to Squadron (11 & 5 a side teams) & ADW, its appropriate to give him a hearty send off from Asia, so we are planning to take a short weekend break to the resort city of Angeles in Las Philippinas on the weekend of 17-19 October.

(Bere in mind that neither Squadron nor ADW are planning to tour to Manila in November – the next official Philippines trip is February 2009 for the Nomads Vets Tournament)

We’re going on our favorite airline via Macau. The flight details and cost (if you book now) are shown below.
Tiger Airways

Fri, 17 Oct 08
Flight TR 902 13:40 Depart Macau (MFM) 15:30 Arrive Manila (Clark) (CRK)
Sun, 19 Oct 08
Flight TR 903 13:25 Depart Manila (Clark) (CRK) 15:20 Arrive Macau (MFM)

Total Cost of Flights if you book today! = 662.00 HKD
(Excluding Luggage Allowance – you won’t need any - & of course you’ve got to get to Macau & back)

The weekend will comprise the usual routine – gentle paced evening on Friday when we get there – game of golf at Marina Hills on the Saturday afternoon – quiet night out on the Saturday (maybe watch the EPL in a sports bar for some excitement!) – relaxing session by the pool on Sunday morning and fly home. Nothing untoward or strenuous at all!

Interested parties should contact and he will assist with hotel reservations at one of the Orchid Group’s luxury resort hotels.

2nd Annual WAGS Charity Golf Day

Friday 17th October 2008
Again it will be held at Kau Sai Chau on the North Course. It will be a 4 ball scramble tournament with a load of prizes and free giveaways. The organisers are looking to get 72 players on the day after 32 last year and it was a lot of fun.

Squadron are entering at least one 4 ball already and hopefully we can get more. The cost is $1000 per person or $4000 per team which includes green fees, refreshments, a goodie bag and a donation to Hong Kong Spastics Association , as well as to other charities.

Friday 17th October 2008
Contact if you are interested.

SQN Ramblers sink Ghurkas

Aug 19th, 10:08pm - 3 Squadronites (Mike Hanson, Paul Slatter, Gavin Mcdermott) fostering football amongst the youth on the inaugural Squadron Ramblers tour of Nepal. They narrowly won the skirmish, but only after Gavin had kicked the ball in the river and one of the little tykes had nearly drowned trying to recover their only football!
The Ramblers were undercover as usual in laying the groundwork for the intended Mass invasion of Squadron to Nepal later this year...more to follow

SQUADRON DEFEND 6’S TROPHY

May 21st, 6:51pm - SQUADRON WON the 2008 6'S CUP on Sunday after a resounding 5-0 despatch of French Kiss in the final. An early strike from Likkle Nath forced the French to press and they were relentlessly caught on the counter attack. 3-0 at half time and the silverware was in the bag for a second year in a row. It was a confident end to a day that had started disappointingly with a last moment equaliser by Wah Yan (1-1) undoing the easy work a game that should have finished 3-0. When USRC did achieve that scoreline a must win situation saw the Squaddies confidently go ahead twice to enter the Cup (2-1) and consign USRC to the plate, which they were to eventually win. A QF penalty shootout victory (2-0) after a 0-0 with Antonhill was the toughest test on the road to victory as the SF was comfortably won 2-0 against 816.
Jack, Kitty, Arch, Nath, AP, Trampo, Michael H, Shurley and Greg did the damage along with Oatesno's "pass and move" words of wisdom.

Some success at last after a long season of small disappointments!
Well done lads.

Hard Fist doubters let down King of Shaver

May 10th, 4:38am -
Happy Valley - 07/05/2008 -
Going:
Good (Race 1) Good to Firm (Races 2 - 8)
Penetrometer Reading :2.65

and they're off...First out of the gates was OGGY, showing a little apprehension at sticking his neck out so early but quickly joined by LEWIS, SUPER GOAL MASTER and TURN-ER ON, KITTY MASTER coming in off the rails and OATES JOKE bumping the outside gate of its stall and looking jaded, closely followed by the the Danish stable of TRAMPOLEEN, KALLE and BOBO huddling together out of trouble and the young gelding HEYWOOD'S TACKLE showing good early pace... THOMPSON'S TWIN moving steadily after being awkwardly placed between BENJI AND WAKEFIELD'S NEMESIS, on the turn ERIC'S BLONDE, JUSTIN TIME and KING OF SHAVER in those star spangles colours...and the 1100 Metres late running on the outside from SLATTERS KNEE, SIMMONDS GAEL, HMV and BLUEMESH ...KOREAN KEY yet to make up ground and trailing badly... down the home straight its LEWIS got its head on the side and for some distance looks unbalanced with SEPTIC'S PRIDE looking out of it and HMV getting carried away, BOBO looking jaded but hanging on and as we head to the line its a photo finish with LEWIS, BLUEMESH, HMV, WAKEFIELD'S NEMESIS, OATES JOKE, KING OF SHAVER, OGGY, TURN-ER ON, SLATTERS KNEE, KITTY MASTER, KOREAN KEY coming with a late blast and THOMPSON'S TWIN by a nose perhaps...

Racing Incident Report:-

After arriving at the Start, HEYWOOD'S TACKLE had its left front plate reset. HEYWOOD'S TACKLE was examined by the Laboratory Director who said in his opinion it was suitable to eat and drink.
An inspection of JUSTIN TIME after the race did not show any significant findings. HMV and OGGY were sent for sampling.
SIRJOF was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Scottish parliament (blood abnormality)
LEWIS said prior to straightening he placed BLUEMESH under pressure, rode his mount hands and heels, however, it failed to respond to his riding. He said near the 200 Metres he pulled the whip on BLUEMESH, however, when it gave no response he did not persevere in riding his mount out.

Fined - $2,000 - Laboratory Directors tests of SUPER GOAL MASTER - (Race 6) revealed double nationality.

Hearts show their metal whilst Squadron fold

Apr 22nd, 4:19am -
Squadron 1-2 White Youth
Easily the most disappointing performance of the season saw a Squadron team dreaming of the season end as they threw away an early lead with a lazy performance. A second half wake up was still well off the pace required and the threadbare squad struggled to endure the heat of the day. A desperate performance.

Goal:- Shurley
Referee:- 4/7
MOM - Kitty Wilson
Moment - Jack headbutting the woodwork with a smile.

Hearts 1-1 GAS
In a performance that showed all the character that Squadron were lacking, Hearts gained a well earned draw with a fantastic volleyed opening goal and matched their opponents well despite being desperately short of players for the fixture. New blood boosted the ranks along with old campaigners Majik Khan and Silly Solly being coaxed out of retirement.
